Terrance Ross

Phoenix Academy (formerly known as Alonzo A. Crim High School) was known as an alternative school, however, we are now known and recognized as a second chance school. A second chance school is known for students that are facing various challenges such as having financial hardships, teen parenting (both male and female), homelessness, food shortages, and trauma. However, these students are more known for their resilience, hard work, determination, and a commitment to promotion and graduation. Among our many partners, the collaboration between Georgia Communities, Inc. The Grove Garden CDC, Inc., Goal Setters Inc., and Phoenix Academy, many students and communities have benefitted from our partnerships and collaborations, establishing the foundations of success within these entities.

One Success Story

Terrence Ross, a student at Phoenix Academy, fell behind in his studies by no fault of his own. Like many high school students his age, he found himself having to respond to a crisis within the family with an illness, forcing Terrence to seek help and assistance. The Grove CDC and GA Communities were in the process of building Grove Garden Senior Housing as Terrence was being interviewed for a position within the company. Terrence was hired and stayed through completion of the building. Through determination and persistence, Terrence returned to school, doubled on his studies, and managed to graduate on schedule with his class and classmates.

With the assistance of Phoenix Academy and Dr. Mobley, who is the principal of the school along with the numerous partners and collaborations of Phoenix Academy, we are proud to announce Terrance is a part of the Masonry Association of Georgia through their apprenticeship program and employed again through GA. Communities, Inc with Fairway Construction. This awesome collaboration will continue to create great relationships and work to improve the lives of our youth and communities. In closing, the Merchants of Hope of Phoenix Academy are still marching on.
